Support Cletus's Battle with Chronic Migraines

My name is Cletus (yes, really!), and I spent much of my life working as a computer support specialist and network administrator, helping others navigate the complexities of technology. My passion for photography led me on many day trips to regional parks and zoos, where I captured the beauty of animals and plants through my lens.

I’m reaching out now from Gateway Plaza in downtown Greensboro, a senior living community where I never expected to find myself at 58. Life took an unexpected turn when I became disabled, and now I face challenges I never imagined.

For over two years, chronic migraines have prevented me from working. At first, I kept working, attempting to reduce costs by swapping my car for an e-bike, embracing an eco-friendly lifestyle. But these migraines, triggered by sound, light, motion, smells, and stress, bring unbearable pain, brain fog, and memory issues. I have explored medications and herbs, scans, and most recently Botox, some of which have provided limited headache reduction. Still, the migraines strike three to five times a week, limiting my activity and ability to focus for hours or days at a time.

Eventually, I could not maintain employment. Since this time, I’ve exhausted unemployment benefits and depleted my savings. I relocated to Greensboro to be closer to my small family, appreciating the connection they provide; I have received their generous financial support for several years, but they are now no longer able to help. My application for Social Security Disability is still pending and may take years to process. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that one day I can manage these migraines and return to work.

I hope that you can contribute toward my goal of just $400 a month, or $4,800 for a year, to fulfill my remaining living expenses. You might wonder how this amount can sustain me. Fortunately, Gateway Plaza, managed by the local housing authority, charges only $130 a month in rent. Additionally, I receive $291 monthly from NC Food Assistance, and Medicaid covers my medical needs.
