Support Coach C.'s Overseas Teaching Journey

For those of you that don’t already know our Beloved Coach C., his name is Frank Curiel. To know him is to love him. Coach C. is a teacher, a coach & a father, but he is so much more. He is passionate, authentic, a listener, empathetic, gracious, he values integrity, inspires his students, motivates his athletes, he believes in you, he cares deeply and would do anything to help another in need.

Coach C. has been a teacher and a coach for over 25 years, 8 of those years teaching and coaching our Jefferson County students. He has coached and taught some of my own children and we consider him family. Throughout the years he has been an inspiration and an amazing support to all of our children. This man has spent his personal time and hard-earned money in various ways to support his students. He has dedicated his planning, lunchtime, and after school time to provide intervention for ANY student in need, even if they aren't a member of his classes. His dedication to students is like no other. He prides himself on making his students feel safe and supported. Coach C. is, by far, one of the best teachers and coaches that I have come across in my 20 years of being a parent. He has given so much to our community and so much to our children!

Recently, Coach C. was presented with a wonderful opportunity, and he accepted a teaching position overseas. We are heavyhearted knowing that Coach C. will be leaving our community, however, we are overjoyed for him and his new adventure. On November 22nd, Coach C. will arrive in Bangkok, Thailand and will travel to Hua Hin, Thailand on November 24th. In Hua Hin, Coach C. will do a one-week training focusing on cultural awareness and then will be assigned to the school where he will start his new teaching position.

Coach C.’s lovely sister was gracious enough to cover his airfare. However, costs for the program, insurance, visa, work permit, training class, legalization of his degree and background check already exceeds $5000. In addition, he will need to cover costs for packing and sending all his personal effects that exceed the 2 bags that he is allowed on the flight. He will need money to set up a required bank account in Thailand. Depending on his final location, his rent and utilities will cost him about $300-$500 per month, with a security deposit of the first and last month’s rent. Of course, there will be various other expenses that he will endure such as household items, toiletries, linens, food, local transportation, etc.

We hope that Coach C. enters this new chapter of his life with excitement, happiness, love, joy and, most of all, stability. Therefore, this GoFundMe is our way to thank Coach C. for all that he has done and give back to him just a portion of what he has given to our community. The goal of this GoFundMe is to raise enough funds that Coach C. can cover all the extensive expenses that he will endure moving overseas and, hopefully, pay at least his first 6 months of rent at his new home. Many of us feel indebted to Coach C. for all that he has done for us and our children and this is our chance to give back!
