Support Coco's Journey to a Seizure-Free Life

Donation protected
Hi Friends,

My name is Sarah, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my sweet friends, Alison and Dominic. Alison and I have been friends since we were two years old, growing up just a few doors away from each other. I’m writing because their family, and most importantly, their sweet son Coco, desperately need our help.

On December 27, 2023, their nightmare began when Coco suddenly lost consciousness. After being rushed to the hospital, they quickly learned that Coco was experiencing a multitude of seizures and that they needed to act fast and start treatment immediately.

After months of turmoil, multiple doctor visits, and hospital stays, Coco was diagnosed with a rare gene mutation and Focal Cortical Dysplasia, a rare type of epilepsy caused by unusual cell formation at specific points in the brain. Despite numerous efforts to stop the seizures with various medications, none have been successful in achieving seizure freedom for Coco. Having exhausted all other options, surgery became the next step. They are preparing for at least two operations, one of which is called a Corpus Callosotomy. This procedure splits the connections between the right and left sides of the brain in hopes of isolating the seizures to one side. If this procedure successfully narrows down the problem area, another surgery will be needed to remove the affected area of the brain, with the ultimate goal of achieving seizure freedom.

The hope is that these surgeries are the first step toward Coco becoming seizure-free and starting his journey to recovery—bringing healing not just to him, but to their entire family.

Although this is a significant step in the right direction, it is still only the beginning of their journey. This GoFundMe campaign is for those who have reached out and asked how they can help, as well as for anyone who feels moved to support this beautiful family. Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated. All contributions (minus the small fee taken by GoFundMe) will go directly to Alison and Dominic, helping to alleviate their financial burdens so they can focus entirely on Coco’s recovery.

With hope, love, and gratitude,
Sarah
