Support Coleen and Mike's ALS Journey
Donation protected
I am Annette Johnson. I am starting this fund for Coleen (my sister) and Mike Skaife. In October of 2024 just before Mike’s 70th birthday he was diagnosed with ALS (ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, with no cure). Since then their life has changed dramatically for them. Mike had to give up his job, his woodworking hobby, his volunteer work with the WI Turkey Federation (35yrs), WI Women of the Outdoors (28yrs) and 7yrs with the Carriage Classic.
They had to sell their home of 41yrs for one more accessible for Mike. He has lost most of the strength in his arms and is having difficulties walking on uneven ground as his legs don’t always cooperate and causes him to fall.
They will soon be in need of a van with a lift to transport Mike to Dr Appointments both in town and to the ALS Clinic which is 120 mi round trip and to other functions they may want to attend (used van $50,000-60,000). Their new home is in need of some remodeling to make a family living space and bathroom accessible for Mike. ($7,000-10,000). Mike could be on a new drug but the out of pocket cost is $1,500 a month. That is $18,000 a year which we would like to help get him theese meds to hopefully slow the progression of his disease. These are the main issues that we would like to help to achieve with your help.
This amount of money, $88,000 would be overwhelming for any of us, but if we all come together no matter what you can give, we can lend a hand to make things a little easier for them. Your help is greatly appreciated.
