Help Community Mediation DC grow our work in 2023!

Tax deductible
Community Mediation DC (CMDC) provides mediation at no cost to all DC residents, as well as mediation training, conflict management workshops, and conflict coaching to community members. CMDC envisions a city where mediation is used to build strong and peaceful communities, and every DC resident has access to high-quality, collaborative conflict resolution services.

So far this year, your support has helped us to:
  • Hold 72 mediation sessions for 87 participants;
  • Host conflict management training for 200+ community members;
  • Train 85 community mediation ambassadors to spread the community mediation movement across the district; and
  • Develop a mediation program to prevent evictions of small businesses struggling from the impacts of the pandemic.

Your support will help us to:
  • Deepen our engagement with community mediation ambassadors in 2023, providing advanced training and more stipended outreach opportunities
  • Grow our team! Bring on a new staff member to support our prison reentry work
  • Evaluate and learn from our efforts - we're ramping up follow-up calls to past mediation and training participants to get a better sense of how their agreements are working and how they're using what they've learned, and will use this to improve on and add to our current work

Will you donate $10, $25, $50, or $100 to help us expand our work in 2023? Each donation strengthens access to community-based mediation services in the District, allowing us to tap into the resources indigenous to our communities to resolve our own conflicts.

More about CMDC: CMDC was founded in 2017 by a group of mediators and grassroots peacebuilders who wanted to make sure that mediation and mediation training was available to everyone in DC at no cost. Our first mediation session in DC happened in April, 2018, at the DC Jail, and our first training for DC residents to become mediators happened one month later. Since then, we have trained 28 DC residents as mediators and provided mediation services to more than 440 individuals.

CMDC encourages the early use of mediation to prevent violence and reduce the need for court intervention, as well as provide mediation at any stage in a dispute. We mediate community-based disputes that come from self-referrals, community organizations, civic groups, schools, police, government agencies, and others. Our mediators reflect the diversity of DC and use their skills daily in neighborhoods all over the District. Our message to everyone is "you can be a mediator; you can use mediation."
