Support Completing the FIGHTING BACK Documentary

FIGHTING BACK is a timely and urgent documentary that sheds light on anti-Asian hate crimes and celebrates the empowerment of Asian women.

FIGHTING BACK follows Jessica Ng, a first-generation Hong Kong Chinese American and internationally recognized Muay Thai fighter and instructor. The film documents how her self-defense classes empower Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls during an alarming rise of Anti-Asian hate crimes in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our goal in seeking funds is to disseminate this story to as wide an audience as possible, with an emphasis on connecting with the AAPI community.

We started work on this film in the spring of 2022. Since then, we have interviewed 7 survivors and cooperated with more than 10 local non-profit organizations also combating the rising anti-Asian hate. We continue to hear from anti-Asian hate crime survivors who wish to share their story with us, and it is our hope that we can continue working on this project to expand our reach.

We hope we can provide Asian women dealing with trauma a sense of empowerment and confidence after watching our documentary, armed with the knowledge that they are not alone. We see this film as a way of healing within our communities. Ultimately, we aim to raise awareness of the surge in anti-Asian hate crimes and its impact on the AAPI community.

In donating to our project you will be supporting our film’s potential by allowing us to improve in the essential areas of pre and post production. We hope to secure an original score and fine tune the crucial elements of the film, including sound mixing and color grading. Funding will also offset the cost of film festival submissions. We’d like to submit FIGHTING BACK to as many as 100.
