Support Connie Peterson's Cancer and Dementia Battle
Donation protected
For the past 11 months, our family has been on an exhausting journey we never expected. My mom, Connie Peterson, hasn’t been home since January 1st. What began as a routine check for a possible UTI turned into a long, painful road with multiple hospital and rehabilitation center stays.
Soon after her initial hospitalization, Mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer, followed by dementia in April. On top of these new diagnoses, she was already facing diabetes and declining mobility, often relying on a walker and life alert after multiple falls in 2023. Sadly, due to her fragile health, surgery wasn’t an option, and her condition continued to worsen. Since leaving home on January 1st, Mom has lost the ability to walk and now depends on a wheelchair or is bedridden.
Despite efforts from physical therapists at three different rehab facilities, Mom eventually stopped participating in therapy. Since July, insurance stopped covering her stay at the Life Care Center, where she’s been since April. My dad has been paying over $10,000 a month out of pocket to keep her there.
Dad drives daily from Oakland to visit Mom, whether she’s been in Lincoln, Tekamah, Fremont, or now Omaha. One of us is with her every evening to make sure she’s comfortable and help her with meals. As you can imagine, this has been a heavy financial strain, with gas costs piling up and insurance refusing to cover her room and board due to her decision to stop rehab.
We’ve hesitated to ask for help, but we’re at a point where we don’t have many options left. The emotional and financial toll on my parents has been immense, and we need support to keep Mom cared for in her current facility.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, we would be forever grateful. Your kindness will help ease some of the burden on our family during this difficult time.
Thank you so much for your support.
