Support Court To Rebuild And Recover After Shooting

Donation protected
To all of our people who love and care for our Court so well, on Thursday November 14th she was walking her dog Sawyer (we know him) in a neighborhood in Denver and she was chased by two young men who then shot her and then fled the scene. They have been arrested for attempted murder. Thankfully, neighbors, strangers, paramedics and police officers came to Court almost immediately afterwards and of course, Sawyer never left her side.

Most importantly, she is alive and she is committed to her healing, both physically and mentally.
She had surgery to repair her broken femur and is on her way to recovery. We’ve been in the hospital for the last few days and are hoping to return home soon so that Court can learn her new normal and begin walking again. We know she has a home in Michigan, San Diego and Denver, but for now she will be healing in Denver.

Along with the physical burden of such a senseless act of violence, this incident has taken away her sense of safety in this world (for now) and will take time and resources to restore. It has also caused emotional and financial stress, especially since Court doesn’t have medical insurance and will not be working in the next coming weeks.

If you would like to donate to her medical bills, trauma therapy bills, meal train or expenses while she is unable to work our family would be so grateful.

To say the community has showed up so deeply already is an understatement.

Please know that continued support in ANY way is more than enough and there is no obligation or expectation to donate. If you know Court, you know that advocacy is so important to her so above all else, please offer your time, energy and thought to gun safety and our systemic disconnect that has created easy access to deadly weapons.

From Court:
all

a gift to witness your kindness.

More than anything, I’m asking for prayers for changed memories of this night. That the strangers faces who ran out of their homes and their hands holding mine are more memorable than the chase, the sounds, and the wounds. The people who have cried with me, sent encouragement, watched me sleep for hours on end, my family who traveled to simply sit with me, people who advocated for me, validated me and held me – that these memories are more potent than anything.

I’m so desperate for a restoration of humanity and will spend my life advocating for people and justice forever.

What people will do in the name of love is a vision I want to hold onto so tightly. Thank you for everything
