Support food security during COVID crisis in India
Tax deductible
Thanks to a donor, we now have MATCHING AVAILABLE UP TO $10,000 starting 04/29/2021.
India is going through a second surge of COVID-19 pandemic that added to food insecurity, lack of medical support and care to pregnant women.
The recent surge in Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the socio-economic condition of the vulnerable and marginalized community leading to non-availability of basic needs, food, and nutrition. The lockdown restrictions, fear of contracting the virus, curbs on visiting containment zones, have also led to a dip in proper ante-natal and postnatal care in terms of nutrition, health and hygiene.
Ekam has stepped in to help the vulnerable population with nutrition kits. Each kit provides for a family of 4 for 1 month and costs $25. It includes rice, lentils, sugar and condiments.
Our goal is to fundraise for 120 nutrition kits to support 120 families for 1 month.
Please support our campaign as your funds will directly impact families in need during this crisis. Additionally, Ekam is also growing nutri gardens and supporting women to grow their own gardens that will help during such crises.
India is home to the highest number of anemic pregnant women in the world.
India’s last measured child mortality rate was 28.3 deaths per 1000 live births .
About us:
Ekam USA was started in 2016 to support the medical care of children and women in need in India and to encourage youth to participate in local service projects in the U.S.
EKAM Bay Area chapter, supports Ekam Foundation in India in bringing about a reduction in child and maternal deaths by improving the overall well-being of the community through the Sustainable Well Being Initiative (SWBI).
The support of nutri gardens is one such Ekam initiative that was created in response to increasing malnutrition and iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women, to ensure availability of nutrition-dense food.
These nutri gardens are grown in the lands surrounding homes, health care centers and schools. Ekam staff provide training, seeds, fencing, irrigation as well as nutrition and health awareness camps and involve the community in growing vegetables and herbs. Seasonal vegetables are grown organically and are free and accessible to all.
So far, this project has had a huge impact on decreasing the levels of anemia and malnutrition.
1514 kitchen gardens have been grown so far in Tamil Nadu, India, impacting 6846 people who benefited from improved access to basic amenities.
Our long-term goal is to fundraise for 20 nutri gardens that will support 600 kids/students and bring awareness on nutri gardens to 800 people. This will also help support people during crises such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Please consider supporting this campaign, and Ekam’s mission of
Providing nutrition kits
Decreasing malnutrition and anemia
Education and awareness about nutrition, health and hygiene
Education about Covid 19 safety and precautions.
Cultivation of community gardens
As the pandemic is ravaging the nation, your donation will provide much needed nutrition and food security to families. Our initiatives are holistic and address the need of the hour.
