Support CRAFT - Indigenous-Led Earth-Protecting

Please join us in supporting CRAFT, an Indigenous-led, grassroots organization, committed to shutting down the Fermi2 nuclear reactor on Lake Erie, and crafting an accessible, fair, and just energy future for all! Jessie Pauline Collins and Jesse Deer In Water, an incredibly devoted mother/son team, serve as the backbone for CRAFT - Citizens Resistance At Fermi Two . Together, with a small team of dedicated volunteers, they are working tirelessly to protect the Great Lakes region -- even $3 or $5 donations can make a difference!
We know we are at a critical turning point in human history, and what we do now will impact all the generations to come. We have to rise up to protect the land and the waters, listening to and supporting Indigenous leaders and activists. As Jesse said in his blog post on Native climate action, “Native warriors and leaders are some of the world's last resistance and hopes in a fight to protect our peoples’ future here on earth.”
Fermi2 is a rickety and faltering nuclear reactor on the shore of Lake Erie, posing an enormous threat to all the communities in the 50-mile radius evacuation zone (including metro-Detroit, Ann Arbor, Toledo, and many others) as well as the entire Great Lakes region. The reactor is owned, operated, and poorly “maintained” by DTE, our regional gas and electric utility company. CRAFT originally formed after the Christmas Day 1993 incident at the Fermi2 nuclear reactor that dumped 1.5 million gallons of untreated toxic, radioactive water into Lake Erie.
CRAFT is focused on shutting down this reactor for the safety of the earth and the future of energy - a future full of renewable and alternative power and free of radioactive waste. Their coalition-building and education efforts are globally relevant to the fight against nuclear, while local efforts focus on the Fermi2 power station and the communities, lands, and waters it can impact. CRAFT holds a vision of the future where a People’s Energy Plan for renewable, local, community-owned energy is part of a solid solution to our environmental crisis, and they are doing essential work toward these goals.
All funds donated here will go directly to CRAFT. For those of you who would like to make a substantial donation and need it to be tax-deductible, we have a way to set that up through a non-profit fiscal sponsor. Please contact Robin at robin[at]trueearth[dot]org for more information.
Jessie does a monthly newsletter sharing important information about goings-on in and around Fermi2, the fight against nuclear energy, and victories for renewables. You can sign up for CRAFT’s newsletter at www.shutdownfermi.org/contact
