Support Craig's Final Journey at Home

Donation protected
Our beloved Craig is at the end of his cancer journey. We are so grateful for the amazing outpouring of support for this one of a kind, vibrant, whimsical, excessively kind human.

After almost 2.5 years of navigating an arduous journey, we are now in need of support. Craig has facilitated and strengthened community and has helped so many of us. Now he is ready to receive.

Craig after his first surgery in September 2022

Craig was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer in September 2022. Throughout the two major surgeries, chemotherapy, thirty-nine rounds of radiation and countless appointments to manage his intestinal fistulas, Craig has remained committed to healing and getting better.

During his last hospitalization, Craig wanted to be home, trusted his inner wisdom, convinced his team of doctors to let him come home to loving care and peace.

Once Craig was home with the specialized help he needed, we saw him light up in a way that we haven't seen in months.

Craig went from sleeping 99% of the time to having long conversations for hours about his winding career, beautiful communities, colorful travel tales, favorite bands, and so much more. He is spending his final days doing what he loves: talking, connecting, eating, listening to his vast catalog of music.

We've seen an unexpected will from Craig to stay here with us a little longer even with his unimaginable pain. He expressed hesitation to continue his medication that he needs to live because the medical care he requires exhausts dwindling financial resources.

Craig was suddenly laid off over a year ago the week of starting chemotherapy, and his wife Shannon has been freelancing while being his loving primary caregiver. While insurance does cover some expenses, they are navigating a sea of claim denials and needing to hire private nurses when the ones covered by insurance don't show up.

We want Craig to follow his natural path towards his passing with compassionate end of life care. We don’t want finances dictating his timeline. With your support, we can help cover private nurses, medication and medical supplies, bills from past doctor appointments and hospital stays, and other end of life expenses. We also hope some of these funds can help cover some of Shannon's bills after Craig's passing, and the more she is taken care of the more peaceful and at ease Craig will feel leaving this earth.

Craig at home in December 2024

Craig's cancer journey has been a long, challenging road, but has also been filled with beautiful moments. He has always found ways to befriend nurses, see others as his priority, found new ways to honor his body even after organ removals, hugged trees in Central Park near the Mount Sinai hospital. He has gracefully faced his mortality from the beginning, hosted a bladder celebration ceremony and inserted intention and meaning into every possible moment throughout the years, still kept in touch with friends and sent long beautifully written updates even while exhausted and in pain. He has maintained his usual optimistic attitude throughout.

Thank you for supporting our beloved Craig.

Love,
Craig's family and friends
