Support for Crispina & Candido's Eviction Battle!

The Northeast L.A. Local (NELo) of the Los Angeles Tenants Union (LATU) is fundraising to support our dear members, Crispina Ortiz, Candido Ramirez and their daughter Bella who lost their court case, facing eviction, and likely have to leave their home.

Crispina and Candido are well known in the community of Highland Park, having lived here for 30 years, and 12 years in their current house where they have raised children and grandchildren. Crispina Ortiz is a beloved street vendor, whos pupusas are famous in the area, and Crispina and Candido are also pillars of support within the network of vendors in HLP. Bella just started her freshman year at Franklin HS, is an incredibly talented artist and intelligent student -- and now wondering if she will be finishing the school year in the neighborhood she grew up in.

This family has also been a permanent fixture for the Northeast Local, in both our Highland Park and Cypress Park solidarity groups, having supported and defended many of our other members in their housing cases. Their resilience, persistence, beautiful attitudes and spirits to fight -- in having battled harassment and not just one but TWO eviction cases -- is in itself a victory and inspiration to hundreds of tenants in NELA to fight their own cases.

Please help us raise funds to pay for Crispina and Candido’s legal fees, as well as funds to support in their relocation. Anything you can donate will be of tremendous help and assistance.
