Support Critically Injured Delivery Worker

Tax deductible
On the night of January 20th 2022, Imran Hossain, a 18 year old delivery worker, finished up his last food delivery and was heading home on his bicycle. A little after midnight, he was severely injured by a hit and run which left him unconscious on the streets of Windsor Terrace in Brooklyn. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

For two weeks, Imran’s community of immigrants, delivery workers and neighbors banded together to find him. Until yesterday, he was missing and was found after he briefly woke up from a coma, told his medical team who he was and was connected back to his community. Imran is currently in and out of consciousness and the doctors say that he will be disabled for at least 6 months to a year, with unpredictable lasting health challenges.

Imran is a frontline, essential worker who has put his body on the line during the pandemic with little to no safety net. He is also a young immigrant with no health insurance or immediate family in the country. Given his condition, he will not be able to work for the duration of his recovery, which his medical team says is at least a year or more.

Imran is the second youngest of eight children of his family from Bangladesh. He left his homeland out of necessity in 2021 and survived a difficult journey migrating to the US from Bangladesh. He was able to find community and was working to support himself through food delivery work. This is not the first time a delivery worker has been injured or worse, have lost their lives, due to the unsafe conditions they work in.

Frontline workers like Imran are not disposable! He and millions of workers deserve respect, dignity and support when systems that profit from their labor have failed them. We have seen how the most vulnerable in our communities are unable to access the types of care that would fully support them in their recovery. 100% of funds raised from this GoFundMe will go directly to Imran to support his recovery costs. This will include covering medical treatment and therapy, medicine, rent, food and other basic necessities as he will not be able to work for the foreseeable future.
