Support Dale and Jaki's Road to Recovery

Dear Friends, Family, and Members of Our Community,

On August 2nd, our lives were upended—literally. While swerving to avoid an aggressive and erratic driver, we lost control of our car, flipped (10 times, according to witnesses), and ended up in a swamp. By the grace of God—and thanks to our seat belts—we survived. However, both of us sustained serious injuries that have changed our lives.

Dale suffered the worst injuries. She experienced a traumatic head injury, a broken back, a broken foot, and numerous lacerations. Since the accident, she has been confined to a cervical thoracic halo brace. She finally came home, only to develop multiple pulmonary embolisms and needed to return to the hospital. She has been hospitalized 6 of the last 7 weeks.

I, too, have my share of injuries, including a broken back, a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, broken wrist, sprained knee and ankle, and hematomas in both calves. I now experience cervical vertigo and persistent pain and cannot drive until this resolves itself. Our lives now revolve around recovery, and countless doctor’s appointments.

As we navigate this challenging journey, the financial burden is overwhelming. Between copays, purchasing needed medical equipment, and medications, we expect our medical expenses to be around $60,000. This is even with insurance.

We are retired, live simply, and depend on modest pensions and social security. We are humbled to ask for help.
