In late September 2023, Danalys's life changed dramatically when she discovered a rapidly growing mass on her chest, which was diagnosed as sarcoma in mid-January. Being just 23 and a recent Respiratory Therapy School graduate, Danalys had tirelessly provided critical care to COVID-19 patients before her diagnosis. In March, she had extensive surgery to remove the cancerous mass. She is now recovering from the surgery and facing the expenses of the surgery and the new medication she needs to ensure that all the cancerous cells are gone, along with conserving her eggs for future fertility as the medications come with the implication of ripping that choice from her when she later wants a family. She remains facing a challenging journey with significant emotional and financial burdens.
