Support Daniel & the Hagood Family

If you know the Hagood family, you know that they are some of the kindest people you will ever meet! If you don't know their story, here is a quick backstory:

Daniel has been the sole provider for his family and has worked hard to care for his wife Nicole and their two boys, Garrison and Caleb. Nicole is a wonderful stay at home mom who has spent countless hours caring for their home and homeschooling their two boys. 

In 2006, Daniel was diagnosed with a meningioma, which is a slow growing, benign brain tumor. He immediately underwent surgery to have the softball-sized tumor removed. Unfortunately, due to the location of the tumor, the surgeons were unable to fully remove it. As a result, the remaining tumor has continued to slowly grow.

Fast forward many years, another brain surgery and multiple types of treatments, the tumor has continued to progress. Among other health issues, Daniel lost vision in his right eye and most recently has begun to lose the vision in his left eye. Due to the loss of vision, he had to resign from his job in May 2020 and has applied for long-term disability. 

Daniel's medical care teams at Duke & Vanderbilt are hoping to save his remaining vision and stop the tumor's growth through radiation therapy. They feel he is an excellent candidate for this type of treatment. However, this will require intense daily treatments for six weeks at Duke University in Durham, NC beginning in early July.  

As you can imagine, this creates tremendous financial strain on an already difficult situation. Most urgently we hope to raise $5,000 to cover Daniel & Nicole's immediate estimated expenses as follows:

$3,500 Travel & temporary lodging in Durham, NC
$1,000 Childcare costs
$500     Misc. costs (they are unsure whether treatments will be fully covered by insurance)

Ideally, we would love to raise more than the initial $5,000 to provide additional support for them. This ordeal has taken a financial toll on their family already and will continue to do so as they navigate future medical care and loss of income due to disability. 

This precious family has been through so much over the years. Yet, they’ve shown up in our lives and helped so many of us through our own hardships. Whether you know them through work, school, or church or are a part of their families, they have had an impact on all of us. It is our turn to show up for them.
