Support Daniel's Battle Against Leukemia

Hello! This past Sunday (10/20) my older brother Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Monocytic Leukemia (AML). Thursday morning (10/17), Dan went to the emergency room with partial facial paralysis. At the hospital, while doing tests to rule out a stroke, they discovered an elevated white blood cell count. From there he was transferred to a new hospital, where he has undergone more testing, Lumbar Puncture and Bone Marrow Biopsy. He has received his first dose of oral chemotherapy and a more direct chemo dose during his Lumbar Puncture. His Dr. is optimistic that he will respond well to treatment, this being a course of chemo meds over the next 5 months.

When he was 9, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, which he was able to overcome. His previous chemotherapy treatments made him more susceptible to developing this specific type of leukemia. AML is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. His treatment will include a number of different chemotherapies as well as possible STEM cell transplants or further intervention.

Dan currently works in Product Marketing at Optimizely and enjoys what he does! He will be out of work for approximately these next 5 months. Dan and Caroline have 2 cats and an apartment to take care of as well as these additional unforeseen medical expenses.
