Support Daniel's motorcycle injury recovery

UPDATE on 1/19/24:
Hi all! It's been a minute, and I wanted to share an update on this fundraiser. Daniel's recovery has been continuing apace, and he recently graduated from his intensive daily outpatient PT at Shirley Ryan. He has also finally received a wheelchair that is properly designed and sized for him and his needs. In December, Daniel and Sadie moved into a new home with beautiful lake views and, most importantly, an elevator. They are using the majority of the funds from this GoFundMe to help them renovate the space - particularly the primary bathroom - so that Daniel can move and function independently throughout the home. Everyone who has contributed has helped make this possible, and we look forward to seeing what 2024 brings for our wonderful, funny, generous friends Daniel and Sadie.

UPDATE on 8/26/23:
Thanks to the amazing support of Daniel and Sadie's friends, family, and their larger community, we have passed the fundraising goal of $60,000. Daniel has begun his recovery and rehab journey and, as always, he and Sadie will continue to be lights and leaders for the world around them. We have made arrangements for them to access the funds you have so generously gifted as they plan for next steps.

As a reminder you can find updates on Daniel's status and care at his CaringBridge website: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/danielregueira

UPDATE on 8/18/23:
We continue to be blown away by the community coming up for Daniel and Sadie in such a big way. We have once again surpassed our goal, barreling past $40,000 yesterday evening.

Knowing that this event will add expenses in pretty much every corner of their lives, we're raising the goal once again. As before, all funds will go directly to Sadie and Daniel to support the next steps in their lives - medical bills, equipment expenses, lost work/wages, moving costs, and so on.

UPDATE as of 8/16/23:
An incredible village has shown up for Daniel and Sadie so far and we've already passed our initial goal of $20,000.

As they start to consider next steps with this major life change and what kind of recovery Daniel can expect, the two of them will likely need to move to a new home that can be comfortable and accessible for both of them going forward. As a result, we're raising the goal to $40,000. The additional funds will help offset the expenses of moving and make sure that they can get all the help they need to make a move happen while staying focused on Daniel's care and recovery.

Thank you so much for all the love and support you are sharing with them.

Original details:
Daniel was injured while riding his motorcycle home on the evening of August 14, 2023, when a driver entering his road from a cross street collided with his bike. He fractured several ribs and experienced a severe spinal cord injury. On the morning of August 15, 2023, he underwent spinal fusion surgery to stabilize his back and was told that his spinal cord injury at L1 is complete, meaning that his spinal cord has been completely severed and he is not expected to recover function below the injury.

He has a long road to recovery ahead of him and he and Sadie will need support as they navigate Daniel's medical care, rehab and insurance, maintain their home, figure out any leave from work, and take care of their beloved pup Zoey.

I'm setting the goal at $20,000 just to get started; the hope is to make sure they can cover the out-of-pocket medical expenses Daniel will face, as well as provide some bridge support due to any lost wages/work, and help ensure that they don't need to stress about paying for food or other necessities during this stressful time.

I am starting this GoFundMe ASAP to help start gathering support and will hand control of this account off to Sadie when she is feeling ready to manage it.
