Support Dannean's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Dannean Lawler is a retired combat veteran who devoted 26 years of his life courageously serving our country in the US Navy. On June 10, 2020, his life took a tragic turn when he suffered a massive brain bleed/stroke. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and spent a week in the ICU. Afterward, he spent two weeks in a rehabilitation center, regaining some of the abilities lost due to this devastating event. It was during this difficult time that doctors diagnosed him with a left frontal lobe Glioblastoma (GBM) and gave him only 6-12 months to live.

This battle is all too familiar for veterans like Dannean, as his brain cancer is linked to toxic exposure from burn pits during his deployment in Iraq. But Dannean is a fighter. In 2020, he completed chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and he wore the Optune cancer-fighting device for nearly four years.

In September 2024, Dannean faced another blow—he underwent his second craniotomy for a recurrent tumor, but unfortunately, the doctors were unable to remove it. Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful and is currently undergoing chemotherapy once more, with plans to begin Avastin Infusion treatments soon.

As you can imagine, the road ahead is uncertain, and every day is precious. The emotional, physical, and financial burdens of this battle are overwhelming, and Dannean and his family need your support now more than ever.

We are asking for your help in raising funds to cover ongoing medical expenses, treatment costs, and to provide some relief for the family as they continue to make memories during this difficult time. Jonna has been on FMLA for the last 4 years, working reduced hours, caring for Dannean and their kids. Jonna was recently denied coverage for Veteran Caregiver assistance, which was very discouraging considering the time Jonna will have to take off from work to continue to care for Dannean during this time.
