My name is Kathy Prater, and my son Daniel is currently in the ICU suffering from complications of COVID-19.
Daniel caught COVID after I, myself contracted the virus. My youngest son Zach also contracted the virus but showed very little symptoms. My symptoms were more moderate to severe, but Daniel's symptoms became more critical. He progressively got worse to the point he had to be admitted into the hospital. After trying several different treatment options (convalescent plasma, steroids, breathing treatments, and dexamethasone), his condition continued to worsen.
Both of Daniel's lungs collapsed and chest tubes had to be put in for him to breathe. His breathing continued to decline, which led to him being intubated and being put on a ventilator. In order to save his life, he was sent to the COVID ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Department at Baptist. There, he was put into a medically induced coma.
Daniel has no health insurance, and we are unsure of how much our tribe will be able to help financially, if at all. The medical bills, medications, and rehabilitation is going to be too insanely expensive for us to afford ourselves.
We ask if you could find it in your hearts to help my son and our situation, we are accepting any and all donations to help with any expenses we will have down the line. Whether it be medical bills, medications, rehab, or clothes ( as they disposed of the several sets we brought to him) or any other financial burden we are faced with because of this tragedy. We graciously thank all those who are kind enough to help, if unable to help financially, please continue to pray for Daniel's recovery.
