Support Dan's Healing and Keep Riedy’s Open

Imagine if you will, it is Monday night and you are not feeling well. You make it through the night shift at your restaurant and decide that if you don’t feel well in the morning, you will pop over to the emergency room. It feels like pneumonia, and you are hoping you can get antibiotics to help you get over it because you have a busy week with two Christmas parties to cater.
Come Tuesday morning, you are not any better so you drive yourself over to the emergency room. They check your oxygen level as a matter of routine with this type of complaint and see that you are at 72%. You are immediately intubated. This is your last conscious memory. This is what has happened to Dan Riedy.
Dan had to go through emergency open heart surgery. When they opened his chest, they found a rupture in his papillary muscle that was caused by blockages in his heart. He needed two bypass grafts and his mitral valve was replaced by a mechanical one. His heart was basically rebuilt during this surgery. His chances of survival were 50% during the surgery.
A couple of days later, his new mitral valve stopped working due to a massive blood clot. Decisions had to be made to keep him comfortable as he passed or redo the surgery with a 25% chance of survival. Surgery was done and while things are looking better at this time, he has a very long road to recovery, including the possibility of dialysis for the rest of his life.
During this time, the employees of Riedy’s have worked hard to keep the restaurant going. Many past employees have come forward to help. We are asking the community for help to keep the restaurant operating. As many of you know, Dan was always at the restaurant working. The man was a machine! There are not many people that can work as hard as he did at age 70. We do not want him to lose the restaurant while he is healing and we are doing our best to keep it operating.
Many people do not know how generous Dan Riedy is but I am betting many people could share their stories of how Dan has helped them. I have been friends with Dan for over 35 years. I have not only seen the generosity of Dan Riedy but I have also benefited from his help. I have seen Dan cater funerals and not charge a nickel. I have seen Dan co-sign on vehicles for employees. I have seen Dan give food to people he has found rummaging through the trash bins. Any leftovers from the buffets go to the Siren Shelter each day and he has helped his homeless employees with a place to stay. Now is the community’s chance to give back to someone who has helped many people over the decades. Please help save Riedy’s Pizza and help Dan Riedy.
