Support Dave Duhamel's Road to Recovery

The Black Swamp Riders are starting a go fund me on behalf of Dave Duhamel and his family.

Dave started coaching for the Black Swamp Riders ( a competitive youth mountain biking team) during the 2024 Season.

On January 17th, Dave was riding his bike at Oak Openings Metro Park’s mountain bike trail when he had a crash. He landed on the ground,his bike on top of him, with a broken neck and unable to move for 2 hours, until a hiker found him. He was transported to UTMC where he underwent surgery later that night. He currently is in their ICU and slowly recovering. He has extensive injuries to his spinal nerves and a very long road ahead of him. As of Jan 21st he can move his arms with intent , he can tell he is hungry, is breathing from his diaphragm not his chest and shoulders, can feel his left ankle and right toe. All of these are good signs. They have conducted swallow tests the last two days and he is able to sip water from a straw and chew ice chips. He is however unable to eat solid foods and will continue to get his nutrition through a feeding tube in his nose. Repeat swallow tests will be conducted,hoping to progress forward.

Both Dave and Molly are in good spirits are grateful for the support that has been shown to them. They are trying their hardest to help Tony, their 8 yr old, navigate the chaos of dad in the hospital and mom having to be gone a lot. This is a big hill to climb. Dave will be at UTMC for some time, then will be transferred to a rehab center, not sure where yet but hoping for U of M. This put’s significant strain on the family as Dave will be unable to work for the for seeable future. Molly has also had to take off work and is not sure when she will return.
