Support Dave Sheridan’s Fight for Recovery

You may know him as Dave, perhaps as David, or maybe as Judge Sheridan. Some people call him Dad, Doodz, Doo, or Uncle Dave. And there is one person who, for the past 45 years, has called him her best friend and the love of her life—our mom, Kathy.

Dave has been fighting kidney disease since 2015. In July of this year, he made the decision to begin peritoneal dialysis (PD) due to kidney failure. He was a “star patient,” aiming to break the record for the fastest patient to learn PD—surprising to no one. He completed three weeks of training in just one and was ready to tackle his new normal.

However, he faced many setbacks, including a dysfunctional dialysis catheter and a faulty dialysis machine. These issues made his treatment difficult, lengthy, and less effective than it should have been.

On August 2, 2024, we all piled into several cars and drove down to the Outer Banks for a family vacation, with permission from his medical team in Connecticut. Without going into too much detail, he became very ill while on vacation, and on August 7, 2024, we called 911 to bring him to the ER. He was then transferred to an ICU in Portsmouth, Virginia.

He has been battling pulmonary edema, fluid overload, and pneumonia. On August 12, 2024, he suffered a massive heart attack and has been intubated and sedated in the ICU. Kathy and his daughters Shannon, Kellie and Taylor along with his brother Tom, and his sister Sue have all been by his side. He has a very long road ahead of him and needs his family to support him. We are all here, 10-12 hours from our homes and our own families, supporting and loving the man who taught us most everything in life.

Funds are urgently needed for lodging, food, transportation, mental health, and other essential expenses to support our family as we stay by Dave's side. Your donations will help pay for housing for Kathy and her daughters, as well as food and transportation both back and forth to the hospital and finally back home to CT & MA.

If there is one thing we have learned, it’s that the love within a family is such a deeply intrinsic and unbreakable bond. We hope this love will carry him through and bring him back home to Connecticut soon.
