Hi. My name is Dayton Hayward. I am 27 years old and am in a big, amazing family. I am the oldest of six kids and love my brother and sisters and the life that they give me. I have cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder, and a vision impairment and have since I was a baby. But I love life! I love to be outside, to feel the wind in my face, and to be a part of everything in this life. I have competed in over 20 races, including the Boston Marathon and several Ironman competitions. I hunt with my dad and siblings and have loved this part of my life. It gives me purpose. My parents are my best friends and have cared for me full-time since I was born. I am non-verbal, but I understand everything and communicate by blinking my eyes for 'yes.' I was not expected to live, and I consider every day a gift.
My mom and dad have lifted me in and out of our car for all of these years, but I need a wheelchair-accessible van with a lift that can carry all of my siblings with me. We have searched for years but cannot cover the cost. I am hoping that with a little bit of help, we will be able to buy a van so that I can continue to be a part of this world and live fully. I want to go to my siblings' games, concerts, and performances. I hope to show the world that disabilities do not stop us from living. I have so much to offer. If you can, please help me purchase a van that will fit me and life. I have so many friends and thank all of you for being in my life.
