Dennis Langdon fight for cancer!!

Hello All~

My name is Connie Green and I am Dennis's little sis and i'm going to give you some updates on Dennis & his condition.

As many of you know, Dennis has been having some health issues for some time and now we have some answers no family wants to go through but we are remaining strong for each other & holding onto our faith.

In April of 2022, Dennis had a stroke while working. Thankfully he was able to call Lynnette and he was able to very quickly get help to him. While in the hospital recovering from the stroke, we found out he had kidney disease and he needed to follow up with a specialist which he did very quickly after discharge from the hospital.

Dennis's kidney dr watched him very closely and during this time it was also found out that he was severly anemic so he also began seeing a hematologist. The hematologist was giving him RBC injections as well as iron infusions as his hemoglobin wasn't staying within normal limits. We all thought this was coming from kidney issues which all the dr's were thinking as well.

All this started changing on May 18th when Lynnette notified me that she was taking him to ER as his hematologist thought he had a blood clot in his leg as he was having major swelling in his leg and shortness of breath. While in ER at Tidelands Health in Murrells Inlet, SC it was found that his hemoglobin was 4.7 which is LOWER than before with transfusions & RBC injections. Needless to say he was immediately admitted into the hospital.

Dennis was then given multiple blood transfusions starting immediately to get his hemoglobin into a safer level. He was in Tidelands Health from May 18th until May 25th and then he was moved to MUSC in Charleston, SC which is a bigger hospital for more "complex" patients like Dennis. We have heard the word "complex" more times than any family should have to comprehend. Dennis has now been in the hospital 6 weeks and out of work 9 weeks! You can only imagine what this does to a family!

While at Tidelands, they found he had a blood clot in his leg (14x6) - yes you read that right! (14x6) and they needed to do surgery ASAP to remove the clot. They wanted Dennis moved to MUSC as they had more specialized surgeons there as he is again a "complex" case. There was several risks they discussed with us and they wanted him to be at a bigger hospital to take care of this. Dennis was in SEVERE pain with this clot. If you know anything about Dennis, he has a super HIGH pain tolerance and there were times, he would shake the bed due to the severe pain and he would look at us and the medical staff and beg for us to help him! This was pure torture!

Thank God he arrived at MUSC on 5/25 late at night and the dr's saw us quickly and said one of the first things on the list was surgery.

During this time, again his hemoglobin was continuing to decline so more blood transfusions were being pushed in. It was a continuous battle to keep him out of pain & blood at a safe level within his body!! Dr's were on the search of why he was bleeding so much so multiple things were going on at one time!

The next day being (5/26) the surgeons were in early to discuss the plan to take him to OR which they did and removed the clot (thank god for hands of surgeons). *Side note: the head surgeon that operated on Dennis - his first name was Langdon - how cool is that?! - the surgery was complete and the clot was removed but the dr told us his blood pressure was acting weird so they were putting him in the ICU overnight on a ventilator so they could give him meds to maintain his blood pressure.

Lynnette & I were able to go in and see him and boy was that hard!! The dr's & nurses assured us that he was doing good and he was doing most of the breathing on his own. He remained on the vent for several hours & the next morning (early hours) he was removed off the vent.

We were able to go in and see him and be by his side once again. The dr's came in and discussed he had an acute kidney injury so what function he had in his kidneys were no longer working. They discussed he would need to go on dialysis to hopefully regain that function so a central line was placed in his neck & CRRT began. (Continuous renal replacement therapy)

While in ICU, they were able to do a bone marrow biopsy which confirmed Multiple Myeloma cancer (blood cancer). There is no cure but there are treatments. He is having a man made chemo so the disease does not progress as fast.

Dennis has had many set backs during this time BUT also MANY victories! He's been in and out of the ICU, moved to different sections of the hospital and back to ICU!

Right now, he's fighting an infection in the leg, learning to walk again, fighting the cancer & of course still the kidney issues!

As I type this, Dennis has been in the hospital almost a month and a half. His precious wife Lynnette has stayed right by his side.

Dennis has ALWAYS worked and worked sun up to sun down. He would work in the snow, sleet, hail and what ever weather conditions he had to to ensure his customers were taken care of and happy.

Unfortunately, these diagnosis have changed his working lifestyle. Once he finally gets discharged from hospital, he will still need to go to rehab for some time work on his strength & continuing to work on walking with the issues with his leg.

As you can only imagine, this situation has taken a huge hit financially on Dennis & Lynnette as he has NO income coming in. Literally nothing! I can't tell you how stressful this is for Dennis while he continues to fight with his health as i can promise you he would much rather be out working than dealing with this!

If you can find it in your heart to donate, please do so for my precious brother & his wife. This money will go towards hospital bills, continuing his health insurance as he is privately covered as he was self employed & other bills!

The dr's cannont promise that he will ever be able to return to work. They recommended that he apply for disability which they are doing. Plus, Dennis will begin more aggressive chemo very soon.

Also, dr's can't guarantee he will get complete function of his leg back and still unsure where the infection is coming from so needless to say the dr's are fighting for answers as well as we are!

We love you all for taking time to read this! If you cannot donate, please keep the prayers coming as we have a very long road ahead of us but with God's help we will make it!!
