On November 9, 2024, Derrek was the victim of a car accident while cycling. Among other injuries, he has a severed spinal cord that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. These life-altering injuries have not only changed his physical abilities, but will also impacted every aspect of his life.
The road to recovery is long, and the journey ahead is filled with medical treatments, rehabilitation, and adjustments to his home and daily routine. Derrek will need specialized care, a modified vehicle for transportation, and significant changes to his living space to ensure he can live as independently as possible.
