Help Support Diana As She Recovers From Surgery

We are creating this to help show support for our sister, Diana Westhaus, as she recovers from surgery and to help relieve some of the financial burden that is adding to the stress of an already overwhelming situation.

For years, Diana has dealt with multiple abdominal symptoms that doctors had been unable to give her any explanation for. Over the last few months, the symptoms she'd been experiencing got progressively worse until they finally became unbearable and she looked to specialists for answers. After extensive testing, they have determined that Diana has multiple large endometriomas in the abdomen and pelvis that were left to progress for so long that they are now involving or attached to almost all of her abdominal organs. The surgeons say they will not know the full extent of the involvement until they are actually in surgery, and so what would typically be a 90 minute surgery will likely take up to 5 hours or more in her case.

Diana's surgery is scheduled for January 9th, and she will require a hospital stay of at least 3 to 5 days, possibly more depending on exactly what they find during surgery. This will be followed by a minimum of 6 weeks off work for recovery.

What is already an extremely stressful time for Diana with the concern about her health is even more intensified by the financial burden that comes with the need to be off work for so long. She relies on one income to support herself and we want to help relieve some of her worries so she can put all of her effort into focusing on her recovery. Diana is the first person there for others when needed, and we want to surround her with support during this time that she needs it most.

Update 1/9/24:

Diana is out of surgery and admitted to a room. They were able to remove the endometriomas but there was quite a bit of fibrotic tissue and adhesions attached to other organs, so the surgery lasted about 3 1/2 hours and she required an exploratory laparotomy with a large midline incision. She's dealing with quite a bit of pain right now and the nurses have been working to try to get it under control. Please keep her in your prayers that the pain is able to be controlled and she's able to rest tonight.
