It is 650 miles (1047 km.) through the state of Alabama to the Gulf of Mexico. Click here for Alabama650 paddle race. The local charity that I am raising funds for is Starfish23, a 501 non-profit that helps kids financially in sports activities. Through no cost participation; professional training, scholarship placement and emergency funds, they help the kids who need it the most in rural Alabama.

A man walking along the beach found a girl picking up starfish and was tossing them back into the sea. He told her the surf break was filled with them and what she was doing would not make a difference. She paused and said, "It made a difference for that one."

I've seen over the years how this organization has made life changing impact with children. Athletics is just the vehicle that carries hope to these kids. My mother passed recently and she encouraged me to use my body as much as I could; so that's the other reason why I'm doing it. Thank you.
