As many of you know, Dominic was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome on March 21st, and has been at the hospital since for treatment and inpatient rehab.
Guillain Barre Syndrome is a medical condition where the immune system attacks the nervous system and the ability for muscles to function correctly. This affects about 1 in every 100,000 people and the likelihood is even less in a child his age.
Dominic’s insurance has only agreed to approve coverage through Friday, April 11th (a total of two weeks rehab). His Rehab Doctor has suggested he still needs another four weeks of inpatient rehab at Nemours Children’s Hospital, however, the insurance company will not budge on their policy.
Dominic is nowhere near ready to come home yet, but the cost of out of pocket is unattainable at $5,000 per day to remain here. He needs to still continue his Physical and Occupational therapy for months back at home. He is making progress in recovery but coming home is going to be a huge task, with round the clock help from mom and dad.
Sunny and Bo are not ones to ask for financial help from anyone but in this case to keep their son receiving the care that he needs there is an exception.
With intense physical and occupational therapy daily, Dominic will recover and begin to walk again, and eventually run. Insurance does not cover the therapy Dominic needs. With coming home well before he is ready, the amount of therapies is going to be many more than if he had finished the four weeks in the hospital, and then had outpatient therapy afterwards.
Each one hour session will cost $125 out of pocket. For a total of $1,250/week for at the least 3 months. (A total of about $15,000).
He is unable to return to school at this time, and will have a teacher come to the house daily to help him with his studies to move on from the second grade.
Dominic is such an active child and is trying his best everyday to get back to his old rambunctious self. His determination is unmatched!
The financial burden of caring for your eight year old son medically while also caring for his six month old sister is quite the task.
Anything you are able to give can help this family to help their son to feel like the little boy he should be able to be again. Please share!
