Hi!
this is Winnie. I make music and have been involved with the Brooklyn underground scene for a while now. I used to live at “The Grove” before it was shut down and planned a lot of shows at that space. My boyfriend Beaux is a painter and visual artist, we both love DIY culture and supporting other artists and have seen so many spots shut down in Brooklyn recently. We’re am super passionate about building community and supporting other artists, and we found this amazing gallery and event space and hopped on the opportunity to run it together.
we see this space being a spot for all types of media- music, visual art, underground comics, book sellers, clothing makers, tattoo artists, graffiti artists, and more. We wanna be available to anyone with a vision and desire to create with us. We have amazing shows lined up for June. Of course this is not free for us to do -.- but it’s a labor of love
funds will be used as follows:
- SOUNDPROOFING. This is the main thing! We need it. We have neighbors and we don’t want to lose the space. This means building panels to catch the noise and it’s not cheap. Includes mats for under PA and funds already been used to source PA system.
- PAINT for gallery walls. We have to paint the whole gallery. Spackle to cover the messes. Paint for the roll down.
- HARDWARE for hanging art. One of our walls is brick.
- MISCELLANEOUS lots of cables, clip lights, colored lights, tables for vendors, toilet paper, paper towels, water, cups, printing fliers etc.
- GENERAL financial relief because I drained my entire bank account getting the space. Utilities for cooling down a room full of people get expensive and summer is coming.
