Support Sergé Nelson's Journey After the Eaton Fire

Dear Family & Friends,

On January 7, 2025, the Eaton Fire devastated my beloved community of Altadena, CA, displacing families, reducing homes to ashes, and forever changing lives. Tragically, my home of nearly 20 years was among those lost — a place where I built cherished memories, preserved family heirlooms, created art, built a career, and nurtured a sanctuary of love and laughter shared with family and friends.

As a young girl, visiting relatives in Altadena felt magical, and I dreamed of one day living there. That dream became reality, and my home became a reflection of my life’s mission to build family and serve the most vulnerable in our community. With over 25 years as a nurse leader, I have dedicated my career to advancing post-acute mental health equity and improving healthcare access for underserved populations, particularly individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses. My belief in resilience, connection, and service — values deeply rooted in the spirit of Altadena — continues to guide my work and life.

I thank God every day for the gift of life, and thankful for the abundance of love and encouragement I have already received. After losing my home and belongings, I now face the challenging journey of rebuilding my life from the ground up. While I am grateful to be surrounded by the love of my family, friends, church community, colleagues, and the Southern University alumni network, I can't do this alone.

This fundraising campaign will help me heal and restore what was lost so I can remain part of this diverse, resilient community and continue my mission of serving. Your support and generosity will provide a critical lifeline as I take the steps toward recovery and rebuilding.

I am profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers I have already received. Your kindness gives me strength, and I deeply appreciate any contribution — big or small — to help me rebuild my life and continue my service to the Altadena community.

Sincerely, thank you for standing with me during this challenging time. Together, we can rise from the ashes — stronger, more connected, and full of hope.

With deep gratitude,

Dr. Sergé Nelson
