Dr. Fabian Tata has been the backbone and heart of the Florida State University Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE) Lab for almost 30 years, helping thousands of first-generation college students earn their degree. His wife, Kimberly Amos-Tata (“Mrs. Kim”), is the Assistant Director of Academic and Student Services at the FSU School of Information and has worked in various capacities at FSU supporting students in their pursuit of advanced degrees for over 20 years. Together, they have touched the lives of countless FSU students and families through their unwavering support and dedication to helping each student reach their dreams. Embodying a spirit of selflessness and generosity, Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim have given so much of themselves to help make the FSU community home to every student they encounter.
Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim have never wavered in providing support to any and all who need it. Whether it was hosting Thanksgiving dinners for students who couldn’t travel home for the holidays, staying well past closing of the CARE Lab so students could get last minute studying in, going out-of-pocket to provide Sunday dinner and weeknight snacks so students would not go without, helping students navigate the processes for graduate school, being a connection point for international students on campus, helping students find on-campus jobs, or offering words of encouragement to help you get through the day, Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim have always been clear and committed in their dedication to doing good and helping others. They gave of their time, money, and energy to those who had a need without a second thought on what it meant for themselves.
Now, we’re calling on you to show your love and return the generosity to support Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim.
Dr. Tata has been diagnosed with Pyoderma Gangrenosum, which has caused him great pain and limited his mobility. He is currently under the care of home health services to battle a resulting infection and the broader challenges of the illness. Mrs. Kim is bravely battling liver cancer and making weekly trips to Jacksonville, FL, for her treatment at Mayo Clinic. Through it all, they continue to lovingly support each other while STILL giving of themselves to help make sure FSU and CARE students have what they need to focus on their college needs.
We want to let Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim know they are not alone as they face their challenges. As a community, we want to come together and surround them with our love, strength, and unwavering support. They are two of the most kind, loving, and selfless people you'll ever meet. We want to help ease their burdens and worries by helping alleviate a small part of the financial burden they face.
Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim have been our village when we needed them. Right now, they need us to be theirs, surrounding them with prayers, support, positive thoughts, healing energy, and love.
Your donations will directly support the ongoing medical treatments and care that Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim urgently need during this difficult time. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help relieve some of the financial strain so they can focus on healing and continue their incredible journey of supporting others. Let's come together and show them that the same community they’ve poured into for decades is here for them now. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with others who know the lasting impact Dr. Tata and Mrs. Kim have made on our lives and the FSU community.
