DragonMarsh is a small family owned spiritual store that has been a staple destination place in Downtown Riverside for 30 years. Dragonmarsh supplies Loose Tea, Spices, Oils, Herbs, Crystals, Candles, Tarot cards, and so much more. They need help to stay afloat in this sea of uncertainty.
Store History: Mora & Eric Met at a Society of Creative Anachronism event. They sold at renfaires, and SCA events until opening the shop on Jan 7, 1991.
Over the years the shop has grown and moved a few times before finding a home in the Historical Jackson building at 3643 University Ave. Riverside, California. On the web at dragonmarsh .com
DragonMarsh is the store the Community didn't know they needed! DragonMarsh brings Classes, Events, Passionate/Knowledgeable staff, and well-curated Positive Life Affirming Supplies to Riverside. They share outside of Southern Ca. through outside events- such as faires, festivals, conventions, and historical events. Through the website- they share with the world.
Dragonmarsh has brought jobs and work experience for students and adults. Dragonmarsh has to pay double taxes - BID (Business Improvement District) fees to have a store in the downtown area. However, they still sponsor charity and free city events such as the Marshmallow Peep Show, The Zombie Crawl craft area, and (catnip) Mousy Making Madness for the Pet adoption center. Dragonmarsh supports Artists and other small businesses through concerts, events and artist spotlights.
Over the years DragonMarsh has changed and adapted while keeping the quality Mora and Eric require of their store. They started with hand copied newsletters and mailers and progressed to email newsletters (Oohh computers!) to modern social media! From a blanket seller at an SCA event to a double booth at Las Vegas Ren-faire! From a table at Loscon to a full booth at Anime and Steampunk conventions!
By request of their customers the family discovered Loose Tea Blending, Spice Blending and learned lost arts such as broom making, chainmail and costuming. Many of the displays, stock and even the logo was created, painted or designed by their family.
These days Mora prefers to work behind the scenes leaving her daughter and son-in-law to help Eric run the store. Misty-Morigianna & Sage are the second generation. Other family, staff, and friends make up the "Marshies". One of the newest kin is the store cat - Pepper Jade.
When they started building the Lofts next to DragonMarsh they knew it was tearing down a home to many feral cats. They started catching them, getting them fixed, and finding homes. Pepper was one of these cats. She was a tiny kitten with heatstroke when she was found. She healed and became a fixture at the shop. Her relatives found homes with family & customers.
“As you have watched us grow, we have watched 3-4 generations of customers come through our doors. We cherish our clientele & feel so honored to be a part of their lives, family and tribe.”
They need your help to keep the heart of DragonMarsh beating. In the past 30 years, so many souls have found refuge, acceptance, guidance, personal growth & education in the shop. But most importantly, they found a place that feels like “coming home”.
Why DragonMarsh needs your Help & Support:
Due to the Corona-19 virus they are struggling to keep the shop open and the store cat Pepper Jade in catfood =^. .^= The store has several family members that are volunteering in this chaotic time but it is not enough. They have had to furlough employees and cut the hours available.
It is now 4 months since they could have normal shopping. It is getting more difficult to keep the bills paid. The cost of cleaning supplies, stock, utilities, and more just keeps going up. All their major events, fairs and conventions that they sell at, have been cancelled. Classes are cancelled. Even the free event they put on for the children of the inland empire - The Marshmallow Peep Show- had to be canceled this year. Right now they should be planning for Halloween and Christmas, but how?
"We want to bring back our employees. We want to add additional hours for customers for pickup while keeping everyone safe. We want to start a online virtual class & solstice area. I don't want my mom's dream to die." -Morigianna (2nd generation- Manager)
If you have ever had a memorable moment at an event. If a marshie ever recommended a book or product that helped change your life or put you on a better path. If they inspired you to do something special or be a better person. If Pepper Jade made you smile with her antics- Please donate even a dollar to help keep our beloved store in business until we all can be together again.
This fund is to pay for rent, utilities, pet food, employee wages, stock, and maybe even a camera & tripod for virtual classes and events.
We will keep you updated.
Be safe.
