Support Duke's Life-Saving Surgery

Hi, my name is Kristine Plata. My dog Duke was recently diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis, a degeneration of nerves which control the muscles that move the laryngeal cartilages, located in the throat. These cartilages control airflow into and out of the trachea (windpipe) during breathing. During swallowing, normal laryngeal function protects the airway by closing the opening to the trachea and preventing aspiration of food or water. In laryngeal paralysis, respiratory obstruction occurs because the cartilages remain in a central position causing airway resistance, instead of opening up the airway during inspiration.

There is a simple surgery to fix his condition that has both low complication risk and a high success rate. This will allow Duke to return to his happy, energetic life.

Currently, Duke has difficulty breathing and has to refrain from any exercise, excitement, or heat to reduce his chances of a respiratory crisis which could lead to death.

Due to the unpredictable diagnosis and immediate need for this surgery, I am requesting donations for my sweet Duke to have this surgery and reduce our financial burden. The surgeon provided cost estimate states a range from $4300-$6700.

If you know me, you know my dog Duke. The dog that goes with me everywhere, has been my best friend and got me through college. Duke is 11 years young and has many more healthy years to live. Any help is appreciated so I can get my sweet boy the surgery he needs.

With this surgery he will be able to breathe more easily, enjoy his favorite activity of sunbathing, and run around with his new sister Genesis.
