Support Eagle Globe and Anchor's Buddy Program

For the past eight years, I have been a licensed barber in my hometown of Mansfield, Texas. In 2018, I took a significant step into entrepreneurship by becoming the owner of Eagle Globe and Anchor Barbershop. As both owner and barber, I have had the privilege of building strong relationships with clients who visit the shop. In this supportive environment, clients feel comfortable sharing stories of their struggles and triumphs, on both good days and bad. Conversations in the barbershop might range from the latest sports recaps to exciting news about the birth of children and grandchildren. Clients often share challenges faced at work, while young clients eagerly talk about school and their activities. I am deeply grateful for these relationships and the space I’ve created to listen, encourage, and support each person.

One relationship that has really humbled me is with a young men whose parents drives several hours just to get a haircut for their son. Due to the additional time and accommodations needed, this mother couldn’t find a barber in her hometown who was willing to provide haircuts for her son with special needs.

The stress of anticipating the needs of a child with special needs in an environment that is unwilling or unable to accommodate can create a lack of positive experiences for everyone involved. As a barber, I recognized the need for a place where children with disabilities are supported during their haircuts and where parents or caregivers don’t have to explain their child’s behavior or apologize for anything they may do or say. I provide the haircut, but the child receives dedicated attention, and candy to take home, and the parents are able to relax knowing their child’s needs are being met.

This is my vision for “The Buddy Program.” I chose this name based on a term used in the service when you team up with a friend—because these kids are my friends too. I’m in the fight with them, side by side.

I plan to designate two days each week as a time for providing barber services to children with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities.

I understand that the financial burden of paying for haircuts can be challenging for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. With the demands of private childcare, therapies, hospital bills, medications, and more, a haircut can become an extra expense. That’s why I am seeking your help to sponsor free monthly haircuts for clients of “The Buddy Program” in 2025.

Over the past six years, I’ve seen the joy in both parents and children when they see themselves in the mirror after a haircut. It’s not just about the haircut—it’s about the feeling of being seen and acknowledged. This small moment of happiness brings comfort to the children and renews the energy of parents and caregivers to keep advocating for their kids.

With your support, I will continue using my skills and space to make sure children with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities receive professional haircuts at no cost to their families. Thank you for your support!
