Support Echo during her breast cancer treatment

Dear friends,
I am writing to ask for your help in supporting our beloved community member and leader, Elizabeth Hyunsook Cho (“Echo”). I've known her for almost three decades, and few are more deserving of our collective support than Echo given her lifelong dedication to peace and justice.
Echo is a grassroots community organizer based in the Washington, DC metro area. For the past two decades, Echo has devoted her life to fighting for peace in Korea, justice for comfort women, and the rights of the LGBTQ community. She is also a member of ChunJiEum, a Korean drumming group that performs at cultural events and protests.
Echo was recently diagnosed with stage two of breast cancer. While she had hoped that cancer would be eliminated after undergoing a mastectomy this summer, she soon learned that she had to go through chemotherapy for the next five months.
Echo is a single mom with two children, a 16-year-old and a 8-year-old. Although her medical expenses are covered by insurance, she cannot work full-time due to chemotherapy and related side effects.
To help relieve her, please help me raise funds to support Echo to assist her during this time of hardship so that she can recover quickly.
For those of you who know Echo, you know what an energetic and loving community member she is. We need her to get better, not just for her children and others who love her, but because she is a vital leader in our movements for peace and justice. We need her for the long haul and know that the more she can rest and not stress about work or financial burdens, the sooner her recovery will be.
I hope you can pitch in to help us raise $10,000 to help her get through these next five months! We can and must do it for our beloved Echo.
With hope,
Youngjoo Kate Shim
