Eddie's fight for Urgent Brain Surgery & Treatment

Donation protected

Hi there, my name is Lenny and I'm raising funds for my brother, Eddie Lapiso, to assist with treatment and rehabilitation.

Eddie has been found to have a significant growth in the right side of his brain, and is currently hospitalized in Port Moresby General Hospital (POM Gen), Papua New Guinea. The nature of the growth is yet to be determined and pending a second scan. One thing for sure, is the growth is putting pressure on the rest of his brain, and he is suffering the side effects of this such as; seizures, issues with memory and speech, headaches, loss of hearing, general weakness, and nausea just to name few.

Thanks to current restrictions on entry to PNG I am unable to be there in person to help look after my little brother, so I thought rather than wait for a diagnosis (as well as permission to enter my home country) I want to be proactive and try to raise funds to assist Eddie with any future treatment and rehabilitation. What is clear is that the presence of this growth is detrimental to his his health and wellbeing, and it will most likely require urgent surgery of some sort, be it in PNG or overseas.

For the last few months, Eddie has not been well and has been unable to work since last year (2020). On the 22nd of July this year (2021) Eddie was rushed to Paradise International hospital after suffering four seizures (fits) over the space of 24 hours. Upon arrival he was tested and found to be severely dehydrated and suffering issues with his kidneys as well as low hemoglobin levels. lt was recommended to move him on to POM Gen as they don't have any specialist Doctors at Paradise International. Once at POM Gen Eddie was put on a drip and my other two siblings had to donate blood for Eddie due to shortage of blood at POM Gen.

Initially Eddie was in a confused state, and it took a few days before he was able to recognize anyone and verbally communicate. Eddie underwent extensive testing (blood, X-rays, Spinal fluids) and was due for a CT scan on his brain, however that scan was delayed and then Eddie was abruptly discharged from the Hospital after showing what appeared to be signs of recovery.

After a day at home at our brother Nicky's residence, his condition quickly deteriorated again and he had to be rushed to POM Gen again. Such is the strain on POM Gen for bed space, that Eddie had to wait over 24 hours in the emergency ward lying on a bench until he was able to get a bed in the emergency ward, then finally a space in the ward.

Once he was well enough, Eddie went in for his CT scan and we received the results back on the 21st of August 2021 which revealed the growth in his brain.

Throughout his late teens up until preset time, Eddie has suffered what we all assumed were epileptic seizures (fits) and had to take daily medication to keep them under control. Doctors say judging by the size of the growth in his brain, it has to have been growing for a very long period of time, and it now seems this could be the root cause of his fits, not Epilepsy as he had been diagnosed with years ago.

Eddie is now waiting on an MRI scan from Pacific International Hospital which should give further information on the growth in his brain and hopefully give us an idea of what course of direction needs to be taken.

The best way I can describe Eddie is as a "people's person" who could get along with anyone anywhere, had an outgoing personality, loved to spend time with his friends and would often go out of his way to help them.

Those who know Eddie will agree that to know him is to love him.

This news has broke our hearts but we will remain positive and do all we can do to help our brother Eddie.

We will keep you all updated on Eddies progress as time goes on.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any contribution, big or small, means alot to our family and would go a long way to help our brothers recovery.

Much Love and God Bless.
