Hello everyone, my name is Darick.
UPDATE: Mom has ran into some digestion issues but she overcame those just yesterday. She had her feeding tube installed so she will be ready to take on radiation and chemotherapy soon. She will have a body cast formed to her to keep her stationary during this treatment. Mom is keeping a positive attitude and she will be released from the hospital today 4/26.
My mother (Eileen) was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on March 13th. At the time, her doctor gave her a grim diagnosis as he reviewed the facts and treatment options with her in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Needless to say, this was devastating and difficult news. Not only is she one of the matriarchs of our family, but she also cares for her husband, Cecil, who struggles from time to time with COPD. Their love for one another is inspirational and one for the books. While the medical care in rural South Dakota is good for the most part, esophageal cancer requires specialized care. On April 21st, my mother began her treatment at MD Anderson in Texas.
Eileen has been a hard-working woman up until the very day she retired and even to this very day. She started as a meat wrapper in the meat department and worked (and I mean she worked hard) all the way up to department manager at Alpha Beta. Unfortunately, she does not have Medicare Part B, which covers the initial 20% of her medical expenses. That means she is facing significant costs for the right to fight for her life. Our family would be eternally grateful to have you by her side as she fights her stage 2B esophageal cancer and WINS THIS BATTLE. She has the right mindset, she is healthy, she is strong, but most importantly, this cancer has not yet spread to her other organs. She will beat this.
Please be part of this success story.
