Support Elder Larry Carter's Recovery Journey

Donation protected
Elder Larry Carter, aka “Donut Man” or “Biscuit Man,” has been in the hospital since December 24, 2024. For those who may not know him, you may have encountered his sweet smile when you visited McDonald's in Blacksburg or Radford or as a greeter when you entered Walmart in Christiansburg.

In December, Elder Carter was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with paralysis in his vocal cords which prevented him from having a clear airway resulting in difficulty breathing. After failed attempts to increase his oxygen levels on his own, the medical team put him on a ventilator. He spent the next week in the ICU. The specialist felt since he was alert and able to function, the ventilator would be replaced with a tracheotomy. This procedure was done, and he is doing much better. Elder Carter was discharged from Roanoke Memorial 30 days later and transferred to a rehabilitation center in Pulaski to regain his strength. Upon completion of Rehab, he will be referred to UVA for evaluation to determine the cause of his vocal paralysis and hopefully remove the trach. Elder Carter has spent the last 54 years of his life serving God, working for his family, church, and the people in his community. As a result of the outpouring of support for Elder Carter, a GoFundMe was set up to help assist the family while he recovers from this serious medical condition.
