Support Ellie Martin's Legacy: Memorial Bench Fund

Ellen (Ellie to her friends) Martin graduated from Hempfield High School in 2015. In her time there, she excelled both academically and extracurricularly-- there truly wasn't a subject Ellie couldn’t handle. From mastering Calculus to Chemistry (at the AP level, of course), Ellie also graciously shared her natural aptitude for her studies as a tutor in her spare time. She was also active as the National Honor Society Vice President, a National Merit Finalist, and as a member of the varsity swim team.

After graduating as Salutatorian from Hempfield, Ellie attended the University of Pittsburgh. There, she majored in Bioengineering and was named Outstanding Biomechanical Student of the Year before graduating in 2019. Ellie then moved back to Lancaster where she worked as a Risk Control Specialist for CNA Insurance.

Ellie was a lifelong avid reader and enjoyed cooking, knitting, and spending time with her family. Ever since she was a little girl, she handled life with kindness and grace, which she never failed to extend to others. Ellie is remembered for her poise, wit, and courageous spirit.

Ellie passed away on September 8, 2023, seven months after being diagnosed with cancer. In honor of the first anniversary of her passing, we are raising money to place a memorial bench outside of Hempfield High School, where Ellie spent four bright years. The bench will include a plaque with a dedication to Ellie and be placed in the shade. By offering a place of rest and solace, generations of students to come will be able to experience the compassion and generosity Ellie showed throughout her life.

We are seeking to raise $1,100 in donations to purchase a personalized memorial bench. Any additional proceeds will benefit the Sarcoma Foundation of America and Ellie’s parents, Tom and Laurie. If sufficient additional funds are raised, a scholarship fund for talented young women to pursue higher education will be started in Ellie’s name at Hempfield High School.
