UPDATE: 9/16/2024
Thank you to everyone who has helped our family during this stressful time. We just wanted to update that Elsie's body was released by the M.E. and her remains were cremated at Whitten Funeral Home. Today she was laid to rest in a mausoleum that is situated in a grave yard that contains her grandmother and her mother.
Sativa is working to put together a celebration of life at one of Elsie's favorite spots to be. As soon as this information is put together we look forward to seeing you there swapping stories and remembering when.
Again please know that it is with our heart felt thanks that we are grateful for all you have done. Please keep us in your prayer as we move forward into the next phase of holding those responsible accountable.
Thank you.
UPDATE: 9/2/2024
Good evening and happy Labor Day. We just wanted to let everyone know where things stand. We have lowered the amount needed because we were able to apply for some help and are only short the amount needed for placement in a mausoleum. We want to thank everyone who has donated so far. Thank you to Whitten Funeral Homes they have gone above and beyond for us and are a pillar of the community. Thank you!
We want to send out a heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to the candle light vigil. Elsie's sister Victoria Seal put a lot of work and love into the event timing it perfectly with the bond hearing for Frederick Wiggington Jr. Bond was denied as he poses as a flight risk. The event was simply beautiful and we are so grateful to the community for coming out to support us and each other.
As the long days ahead of us unfold please keep our family in your prayers, seeking #justiceforElsie does not bring her back to us, it does not make us whole but it does take us down the path to healing.
We would also like to ask to please keep the crew at Amherst County Sheriff's Dept, (Lt. Jones & Sheriff Ayers et al) in your thoughts and prayers along with the troopers and investigators of the Virginia State Police, the detectives from Lynchburg Police and the crew (K-9's included) from the U.S. Marshall's office. These LEO's were unrelenting and undaunted by the fact that the investigation was a year cold. We are forever grateful for Sheriff Ayers and the community for listening to us and realizing something just wasn't right. Thank you.
Our family is in a difficult position right now. Ruck and the kids never thought they would be in this position. Elsie Wiggington, mother, grandmother, sister, nurse, and caring community member was brutally murdered and parts of her body hidden under her own home. She was a victim of domestic violence. Elsie tried to escape the situation and stood up for herself. It was the last time she was seen alive. Her remains were found a year later by the Amherst County Sheriff's Department.
With the circumstances that surround her death have placed the responsibility of putting their to rest on Sativa and Carlito. If you are familiar with Elsie you know that she was a devoted mother to Sativa who is a struggling mother and college student and her brother Carlito who is Autistic. Elsie doted on her grandchildren and devoted her time to members in her community that were in need. Elsie was the director of nursing at Fairmont Crossing and if you or a family member has had to have a stay in the rehabilitation center there you have most likely had interactions with Elsie. Please consider donating so that we can lay Elsie to rest properly now that we have recovered her remains. If you can not donate please share this on your social media. Please say a prayer for our family Elsie was so much to so many and we miss her. Ruck is handling things on behalf of the kids so if you see them in town please give them all an extra hug. Updates will be added as they come.
In case you are unfamiliar with Elsie's case I am including media links. P.S. Frederick Lewis Wiggington Jrs next court date is scheduled for October. Although he is trying to get a bond hearing!!!!
Thank you we are eternally grateful for anything you can do even if it is just to share and tell us a story you might have of an encounter with Elsie!
