Support Emergency Housing for Young Immigrant Mother & Daughter
With COVID-19 still ravishing our communities, we have all been following the guidelines to social distance and stay at home. Unfortunately, we know that not every home is a safe one.
And what’s more, we know that immigrant communities face advanced hardships when it comes to accessing basic services.
The Rochester Rapid Response Network is supporting a mother and daughter who need to find emergency housing and leave a toxic living situation. They will need ongoing support for the necessities of life as they are able to get on their feet, we are estimating that time frame as three months, but we understand it could be longer.
We currently have a free 1-month housing solution but will be working with the family to find a more permanent home.
We are fundraising for the following needs:
- Groceries: $75 a week ($300/month)
- Sanitary, toiletries and miscellaneous supplies: $30 a week ($120/month)
- Transportation costs: $20 a week ($80/month)
- Educational supplies, toys, etc for child 8 years old - $100 a month
- Ongoing housing options with utilities included: $700 a month estimated
Total Monthly Support Cost:
Household supplies: $600
Housing cost + Utilities : $700 (estimated)
Monthly Total: $1,300 x 3 Months = $3,900
We are grateful to the Worker Justice Center of NY (WJCNY) which is providing ongoing support to this family in the form of access to survivor services and legal immigration remedies. Unfortunately, as we know, organizations often have their hands tied, or are short of resources and capacity to fulfill some myriad needs that a family in this situation may have.
The Rochester Rapid Response Network (RRRN) is a Rochester area group formed to support immigrants facing detention or deportation by engaging in community-based strategic actions and public education guided by directly-affected immigrant families.
