Support Eoin’s Recovery and His Young Family

On January 29, 2025, Eoin and Sophie O’Connor’s world changed in an instant. At just 30 years old, Eoin suffered a sudden stroke and was rushed to the hospital. At the time, his wife Sophie was 36 weeks pregnant, and they had imagined their next hospital visit would be for the birth of their baby boy—not a fight for Eoin’s life.

After multiple life-saving surgeries, ongoing serious medical interventions, and time in a medically induced coma, Eoin miraculously survived—thanks to the incredible care of the team at John Hunter Hospital.

Just weeks later, on February 13, 2025, Sophie gave birth to their son, Keelan, in the very same hospital where Eoin remained under intensive care.

Before his stroke, Eoin and Sophie were busy renovating their home, excitedly preparing for the arrival of their newest family member. Eoin was an active, strong, and determined young man who loved teaching, playing Rugby Union, and running with their beloved dog, Luna. His strength and determination will now be needed more than ever as he faces an extensive recovery.

While Eoin has survived, the road ahead is uncertain. His speech and mobility have been severely affected, and the extent of his impairment is still unknown. As high school teachers in Newcastle, Eoin and Sophie have dedicated their lives to supporting young people. Now, they find themselves navigating a long hospital stay, rehabilitation, and the uncertainty of Eoin’s ability to return to work—all while adjusting to life as new parents.

This fundraiser is to support Eoin, Sophie, and baby Keelan during this incredibly difficult time. Every donation will go directly to the family to help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on what truly matters—Eoin’s recovery and their newborn son.
