Help Support Eric Ocampo's Memorial Services

Donation protected
Hello family and friends,

On behalf of the Ocampo family, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for all your kind words, memories, and condolences as we navigate this extremely difficult time. For those of you who may not know me, I am Eric Ocampo's niece, Angel Aviles (daughter to his older sister, Malissa Ocampo Sneed).

On the night of Sunday, August 11th, Eric suffered a severe stroke due to an intracerebral hemorrhage located at his brainstem. He was hospitalized at Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City, fell into a coma and was intubated for acute respiratory failure. He also had an external ventricular drain placed into his skull to support him with draining cerebrospinal fluid from his brain and reduce his intracranial pressure.
After receiving the professional opinions from various neurologists and neurosurgeons, the general consensus was that Eric would require life-long care and there was no chance of recovery for independent living. We were informed that he would require a shunt, tracheostomy, and PEG tubes to support his long-term breathing and feeding, 24/7 care via skilled nursing, and he would never regain the ability to walk again due to the extensive damage around his brainstem. In all honesty, we weren’t even sure if or when Eric would regain consciousness, and these were answers we desperately yearned for, but we were simply faced with uncertainty and guilt as we witnessed Eric’s condition worsen.

For those of you who know my Uncle, it is safe to assume and agree that this is not a life he would have ever wanted for himself. He was an independent, strong-willed man, and he was the primary caregiver for his mother, my grandmother, Mercy Ocampo. Eric and Mercy lived together in Daly City, and the 2 were truly inseparable. Eric walked/bussed all around Daly City to run errands and get Mama food/groceries; he loved to cook and bake, watch movies, play video games, and engage in deep, philosophical conversations. He emanated warmth and understanding, gracing those who welcomed his insight and knowledge. He challenged others to turn towards deep introspection and explore the complexities of human nature and thought.

With all this being said, after weeks of deliberation, our family finally made the heartbreaking but necessary decision to withdraw Eric from life-sustaining treatment. Eric was extubated on Sunday, and he sadly succumbed to his damages and passed away at 10am on Wednesday, August 28th, at the devastating young age of only 46 years old.
Eric was hospitalized for a total of 17 days, and during that time, he was surrounded by so much love, warmth, laughter, and tears of both joy and sadness. Thank you to everyone who visited and called, as well as to everyone who said prayers and checked in on our family.
Our family is finding peace in knowing that Eric is no longer suffering - that he is free of pain and able to reunite with his dad (Eustace Ocampo) and the many other beloved family members and friends who have faithfully departed this world.

We truly hate to have to ask for financial assistance, but his passing was unexpected and sudden. Eric was the primary caregiver for both Mama Mercy and Papa Jay, prior to Papa’s passing in December 2017. He was unemployed due to the full-time commitment in caring for my grandparents, so this is not an expense that my family anticipated.

Your generous donations will contribute to Eric's memorial services and cremation in alignment with his personal wishes. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated, and my family would especially value your continued prayers for Eric and for our family.

Donations can also be made via Venmo to myself @AngelAri226, last 4 digits of my cell are 6232 if verification is requested.

As of today, his services are tentatively scheduled for next week Saturday, September 7th, in Daly City, time TBD. Once we finalize his funeral arrangements, I will update and share that information here as well.

Thank you so much.

With Love & Gratitude,

Angel
