Support Erica Hansen's Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Toward end of June of this year (2024), my amazing daughter-in-law, Erica Hansen, suffered a stroke caused by an episode of uncontrolled high blood pressure. She was admitted to Halifax Health Medical Center (Daytona Beach, Florida) where she spent 5 days in the Intensive Care Unit, followed by 15 days in the cardiac care setting (she was discharged at one point, but readmitted several days later for a recurrence of stroke-like symptoms.
As a result of this health crisis, Erica experienced loss of cognition, orientation to time and place, and memory. She also has lost her ability to see. Her vision loss has been diagnosed as PRES, Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome, which may or may not resolve with intensive vision occupational therapy. She is being referred to Brooks Center for Low Vision, where she will learn to again participate in everyday activities of daily life and maintain some independence.
Erica has worked in restaurant management for many years, and like many others in the industry, does not have health insurance. Neither she nor her husband (my son, Jeremiah) have employer sponsored health insurance. They found themselves in the situation of making just enough money to pay their rent, water and electricity, car payment, etc., but not enough to afford monthly premiums for health insurance, even with plans offered by the Affordable Care Act.
They now have significant medical debt due to the recent hospitalizations. The Low Vision Occupational Therapy will be another large expense. Erica cannot return to work at this point. It is unknown if she will ever be able to.
Please consider contributing to this Go Fund Me request, any amount will make a difference and will go towards these medical expenses. Any amount is welcomed.
Thank you!
