May 15th, 2024 we received the call: Erik and Yvonne , you will be representing the Netherlands at the Mixed Offshore World Championship 2024 in Lorient from 24 September - 1 October 2024.
Wauw, it starts in only a about 4,5 months.... that is campaigning 'pressure cooker' style!
What is the Mixed Offshore Double Handed World Championship 2024?
If we analyze it like a math formula:
- 'Mixed Double Handed' means 1 woman and 1 man
- 'Offshore' says it all: one needs stamina, and it's not for the faint-hearted
- 'World Championship 2024': starting 24 September 2024 in Lorient (France), the World's best 22 teams race in 2 qualifying races, and 10 teams finally compete in the final for gold.
All teams race in the same boats, provided by the organization. The boats are the same. For this event: Class30 boats or as some know it: Jeanneau SunFast 30 One Design. The World Championship and the Class30 is governed by World Sailing.
When is the Mixed Offshore Double Handed World Championship 2024?
World Championship 2024' in Lorient (France) starts 24 September 2024 and ends 1 October 2024.
Where can I find more?
Erik and Yvonne have a campaign page . It takes you on their journey with great video's during their races, media coverage, their sailing CV's and motivation and much more.
Why do we need your support? And what will it be used for?
Logistics, boat rental, navigation, gear, safety stuff, food & beverage, travel, fees for racing, training, insurance, spares, and accommodation, are just a few extra costs to consider in our campaign budget.
Defending a nation's pride doesn't come cheap ;-) As this discipline is new and not yet Olympic, in the Netherlands that means one has to fund it by him- or herself. So, we have to organize our campaign in a smart way.
To be prepared for the offshore races, you have to sail all the miles possible together. Preferably on the same C30 boat - unfortunately not available in the Netherlands - and in the same racing area, you will race the worlds.
We travel left to right and race many offshores as we can, either on other boats made available to us. Prior to the Worlds, we rent to train and race in the C30 at the end of August and September.
In this 'pressure cooker' style campaign, everything from preparing, training, and fundraising happens at the same time. That means: we need all the support from you on our Road to the Worlds2024!
We basically close our eyes and spend the necessary funds for the world championship. When we open them again on October 1st, we hope to see a golden team with you on the supporters list on our Road to the Worlds.
Your donation will help us significantly with and cover almost a quarter of the campaign budget.
Will your name be on our 'thank you supporter's list' ?
