Bryan "Buddy" Dershem Medical Fund

This fundraiser is for Buddy and Beverly Dershem, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Beverly explains their situation:

"Bryan is a Vietnam era veteran having served in the Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Japan, as well as Camp Lejeune in NC.

He developed shingles in his right eye, nose, and forehead in August of 2022. The shingles have cleared, but he developed post therapeutic neuralgia and is still dealing with that pain everyday.

Around the 22nd of March, he was getting out of bed and slipped to the floor. A few days later, he could not walk at all. We took him to the hospital where they admitted him. After seven MRIs, three CAT scans, and a lumbar puncture, they still have no diagnosis. They feel it could be an autoimmune disease because he responded to steroids.

After the hospital, he went to a rehabilitation center for about 16 days. He is currently at home and getting home health care. He is still in a wheelchair.

We saw a neurologist today (4/19/2024) and will continue treatment with him .

He is also under the care of a urologist as he has a catheter. We have good insurance, but still have a lot of out-of-pocket expenses and equipment we need that the insurance will not cover. Our lives have become chaos. I appreciate my sister-in-law for putting this together."
