Support Evie’s journey to aid Zanzibar in 2025

Hello!
My name is Evangeline Graves -also know as Evie- and i am a student at Gillingham School (Dorset, UK) in year 10. I am very fortunate to have been selected to be apart of a volunteering trip to Zanzibar, Africa, in July 2025. My school is apart of a joint partnership with African Adventures which is dedicated to improving the lives of young people in the UK and primarily in Africa.

African Adventures is able to work with six schools located near Stone Town in Zanzibar. Their purpose, as well as the purpose of this trip, is to help improve the lives of many unprivileged children and their schools which they attend, as well as this we will be able to provide them with extra support in the classrooms as well as sufficient education and entertainment. When on the trip, volunteers are able to get involved with Teaching and Multi-sports or Building and Renovation. Classrooms at the partnered school’s are under-resourced and mainly overcrowded so by choosing a teaching assistant role volunteers are able to help teachers deliver sports lessons (when suitable) and to help support small groups of students with their work.
On the other hand, for volunteers that choose building and renovation, who like to see projects being from start to finish, they are able to work with the construction/renovation of classrooms, toilets, kitchens, offices, assembly halls (at school) and walls. As the work is carried out, which is always led by a local builder, it is physical and can be quite challenging, but is better suited for those who are really prepared and are ready to participate. This aims to provide children to reach their full potential, when learning, in the healthiest environment possible.

Having this opportunity as a school trip broadens my capability to reach my full potential in all aspects of life. One of my main passions is to help people in all stages of life to be able to get the chances i got when growing up and still ongoing opportunities. Furthermore, while in progress leading up to the trip, dedication and determination will be proven to show just how much i deserve to be able to go. This trip allows me to take my own learning beyond the classrooms and school i work at, as well as to help me develop new skills such as deeper flexibility, compassion and appreciation, whilst being able to contribute to a real change in developing a community. I plan to help fundraise this by walking half a marathon as well as hosting events in my own village as well as in the United States as thats where i grew up from and i will be visiting there once again in the summer of 2024, including the odd jobs here and there. I am terrifically excited to be able to volunteer. Any money that is donated to the cost of the trip will be greatly appreciated of and if i am able to raise over the set goal all extra money will go towards African Adventures so please check out there website below!
