Support Evolina with her mother's sudden passing
On March 28th, Christine Kominek was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, breaking her neck on impact. On April 1st, at 13:12, Christine left this world, leaving behind her father, stepmother, sisters, brother, and most tragically, her amazing 15-year-old daughter Evolina.

Christine walked through life without fear and without apology. She was such a force and touched so many lives throughout her years. Christine’s spirit was forged like Damascus steel. She was unbreakable, always battle ready, and was composed of so many intricate layers that she, herself, was as much Art as she was Weapon. But Christine’s blunt harsh edges refined and glistened as the birth of her daughter, Evolina, gave purpose to Christine, forming her into a crisp, sharp blade.

Christine had always been a woman of detail, of perfection, hard work, of commitment, of loyalty, of above all, a woman of heart. But it was within the calling of motherhood that would summon these attributes in a quantity and velocity that would change her life, and the life of Evolina forever and for the better.

Evolina lived with her dad until 2021, at which point she moved to live with Christine.

As a single mom, Christine offered the approach, the love and the feist that Evolina needed to begin to find her place in the world. It was this pivotal relationship between Christine and her daughter that fostered healthy independence within Evolina, that prompted Evolina to stand up for herself, her needs, and her desired direction. For the first time Evolina consistently attended school, enjoyed school, and was actively engaged with her peers and teachers in a way that Evolina’s parents had never seen before or knew was possible.

With the sudden and unjust passing of Christine, Evolina is drawing up on all the strength Christine instilled in her to continue following her path. She remains committed and unwavering in her desire to remain in Vancouver and maintain her ties and relationship with her school. She is committed to getting employment and tending to all of life’s daily duties as a competent, self-sufficient and – like her mother- strong and fierce adolescent. Evolina’s father, Mark, who lives in Toronto with his wife and Evolina’s younger brother, is committed to supporting Evolina’s desire to follow her path here in Vancouver.

All money raised from this fundraiser will be to support Evolina to maintain stability in her life. We are striving to help provide Evolina to secure a place she can call home.

No one can replace Evolina’s mother. The best we can do, is to help this amazing young girl. Through this we honour the incredibly special place she had in Christine’s heart. Together, we can honour what Christine would have hoped and dreamed of for her amazing spitfire daughter: to walk in her path, without fear and without apology! Give what you can or share this page so that we can round up as community and help in the best way we can during this unspeakable tragedy and loss.
