Update — July 10th 2023

1. We're thrilled to share that we took the bold step this year to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad - and we did it!

2. Our participation has already reaped benefits: institutions, schools, and the general public seem to be more aware and interested in our journey. Even those who had never taken us seriously are now acknowledging our potential.

3. We managed to support the travel of five candidates, along with a deputy and a leader. This was largely made possible through the kind 200 donors and individuals who took the risk or to pay our flights and be refunded later.

4. Our candidates have taken their exams, and we are now richer for the experience. What we learned from this edition will greatly help us improve our program overall.

5. Our excitement is heightened by the thought of returning and enhancing our selection and training processes for the students.

However, a major hurdle has emerged. Allow us narrate the story:

Our flight was funded through this crowdfunding campaign we launched on 2nd July. Within just two days, 80 contributors helped us raise 4000 EUR, which was just enough to fly 2 people. Seeing our progress, a few well-wishers allocated additional resources to book our flights, allowing us to fly out the remaining 5 candidates, deputy and leader at a total cost of 16,800 EUR. Unexpectedly, once we departed, the campaign funds growth slowed, causing us considerable stress.

Update — July 5th 2023

1. Congratulations on your contribution! We've reached our initial goal of 4000€.

2. We are now in a position to safely book 2 flights for July 6th and send 1 candidate and an adult chaperone, as they are still too young to travel alone.

3. Furthermore, we are considering sending 3 or possibly all 6 candidates using the Pay Later option for flights.

4. We are still in need of your assistance, so please continue to share among your networks. Together, we can achieve greater feats.

Update — July 4th 2023

1. We have talked with Japan Team, and now the children have until July 6th to fly out (they will only miss the opening ceremony).

2. The travel agency is willing to let us pay half of the total upfront and the balance at a later date.

3. This flexibility has allowed us to revise our initial goal of €4,000 for 2 people to €16,000 to accommodate all 8 team members. It's heartbreaking to include some and exclude others :'-(

4. We have used the collected funds to book the flight for the team leader, who was expected to be in Japan from July 2nd (before the candidates). He's en route to Tokyo as we speak.

At the core of this campaign lies our deep belief in the potential of our youth, who are the future of our nation. Supporting them to attend the International Mathematical Olympiad is not only about recognizing their exceptional talent, but also about instilling a lasting wind of change by fostering a culture of excellence and effort among Cameroonian youth.

By supporting these talents, we provide them with a platform to shine on the international stage. We show them that regardless of their background, they can achieve their dreams through hard work. The success of these children can inspire other Cameroonian youth to push their own limits, creating a positive and contagious movement towards pursuing excellence in education.

The Urgency of the Situation

Time is a critical factor in this situation. The candidates are expected will arrive on July 7, 2023 (instead of the official July 6 due to lack of funding). The anticipated funding has not confirmed their participation, and we have three days to arrange flights for our children to the 2023 Olympiad in Japan. The challenge is significant, but as we say in Cameroon, "impossible is not Cameroonian." We still have a few precious hours to make this incredible adventure happen for our young stars.

Financial Challenges

Our challenges are primarily financial. The highest cost is for flights, which amount to 2,000 EUR (approximately 1.3 million FCFA) per person, for a round trip from Cameroon to Japan. For the team of 6 candidates and 2 accompanying adults, this represents a total of 16,000 EUR.

Our first goal is to raise 4,000 EUR to send at least 1 child and the accompanying adult. With your generosity, we can still reach the full amount.
